Sunfish Fleet
Whether you have some experience or no sailing experience we welcome all those (18 yrs. or older) who want to sail to join our SEA CLASS. Come out any Friday and/or Saturday in July and August from 9:00 a.m. to 12 Noon with a life jacket and a desire. SBYC has several Sunfish for you to use or bring your own. We will take it from there.
SEA CLASS -
Total beginners - For beginners we start with very short, non-
threatening lessons (usually early in our sailing time) and then, as you learn, we get you out on the bay with the group (with one of our patrol boats keeping a close eye on you.) The idea is that learning to sail shouldn't need to involve yelling or bullying. If you think you might be interested, turn up on the beach to watch what's happening and meet members of the group - but no-one will make you get into a boat unless you want to do so! After you've learned you can join the group, learn to race, have fun etc. But only if you want to.
People who used to sail and would like to start again - You're afraid you've forgotten everything, but will soon find you haven't. Again, you can borrow a boat if you need one, join the group, have fun....
People who used to race and would like to start again - Before exposing yourself to possible humiliation in B class, you can have fun in Sea Class races, relearn the rules, sharpen up your starts and so on.
People who just want to go sailing - Come join us.
SENIOR SUNFISH RACES -
The senior Sunfish Fleet race almost every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. (schedule posted on sailing board on SBYC porch.) There are three divisions of sailors - "A Class", "B Class", and "Sea Class." All Senior and Intermediate members are welcome.
RACE COMMITTEE -
The race committee is always looking for rescue and patrol volunteers. If you would like to get more involved at SBYC this is a great way to meet a fun group of people while helping out.
The Sunfish Fleet is under the direction of Dick Saunders and Wendy Glavis.
