Catamaran Fleet
SBYC’s catamaran fleet has been active for over 40 years.
Beach catamarans like the Hobie, Prindle and Nacra are inexpensive to buy, easy to maintain, and a lot of fun to sail. Our club has a variety of boats from the popular Hobie Wave to the larger 2 person boats.
During the summer the cats have races every other Saturday afternoon. As many of our ‘cats’ are different, we race on corrected time to determine the scoring. After the races, we usually have a relaxed liquid fueled post-race analysis on the beach as the day winds down.
Each year, SBYC hosts the Division 11 Hobie regatta, which has over 30 boats attending from throughout the Mid Atlantic region. It is the club’s longest running regatta and is a great time.
This year we will be repeating last year’s popular Guest Crew Day, which combines a BBQ lunch with rides on our cats to show everyone just how fun (and easy to sail) these boats really are. Catamarans are the fastest sailboats on the bay!
