Junior Sailing Membership
Junior Sailing members must be a Junior Member. Junior Sailing Membership includes the choice of one sailing classes described at left. To assure your child's space in the program, applications deadline is
June 1st.
SBYC SENIOR MEMBER INFORMATION - A Junior member shall be an individual not less than age seven by June 1st, nor more than 18 years of age whose parent(s), grandparent(s) or guardian(s) are active members of SBYC.

Statement of Understanding
The basic sailing course you are about to begin is an exciting and demanding challenge, but you need to be aware of what will be involved in the course and be willing to study and practice to achieve success.
I authorize that in entering this sailing course I agree to obey all program rules set forth by the Junior Sailing Chairperson, that I will use the utmost care in the use of the boats and equipment, that I will not engage in any horseplay or other disruptive behavior. I understand that failure to attend regularly, arrive promptly, and abide by the house rules may result in my suspension from the program.

All fees including Junior Membership Dues, Junior Sailing Fee and Boat Slip Fee must be paid before the program begins. Please make requests for a boat slip with the Dock Master.
EMERGENCY CONTACT INFORMATION
Please list names and numbers of those who can care for your child in case of emergency. The people listed must be able to drive to pick the child up if need be.
Beginner, Novice & Opti Green Fleet: Eligible sailors will be 7 years old or older on June 1st.
Beginner: For children entering the program who have never sailed in a program before . They will learn the basics of sailing, sailing terminology, water safety, boat rigging, boat maintenance, and working as a team.
Novice: For Sailors who have sailed for one season and want to strengthen their sailing knowledge. Lessons will focus on building confidence and learning beginning racing skills. Sailors should plan to attend the last Green Fleet Regatta of the season and the SBYC Labor Day Race.
Opti Green: For Sailors who have sailed for one or more seasons and are working to develop their racing skills. Lessons will work to improve sailing and racing skills. Sailors will participate in four Green Fleet regattas, the last LBIYRA Interclub Regatta of the season and the SBYC Labor Day Race.
Racing Teams:
Opti Racing 1 (OR1): Sailors will continue to develop their racing skills and have attended some Green Fleet Regattas. Sailors will work towards more challenging racing knowledge and sailing situations. Sailors will participate in Club Point Races, Club Holiday Races, LBIYRA Interclub Regattas and the Brant Beach Opti Regatta.
Opti Racing 2 (OR2): Sailors have more advanced racing skills and will work towards fine tuning their competitive edge. Sailors will attend all of the above, plus a full regatta schedule.
Advanced Race Team (AR): Includes C420, Laser Radial, Laser 4.7 and Sunfish. Sailors have been racing for several years, are stepping up into bigger, faster boats. Sailing lessons will focus on learning new boat specific skills and racing skills at a higher level. Sailors will participate in Club Point Races, Club Holiday Races, LBIYRA Interclubs, and a full regatta schedule.
*Note: Instructors will work with sailors to determine skills required to advance to the next class level. Class level advancement is determined by sailing proficiencies and not necessarily correlated to years of sailing experience
